Chidokan was a domain school of the Shonai domain established in the Edo period, where the samurai of the time studied. You can learn about the history of the educational facility where feudal samurai learned their studies and martial arts, and the building is still preserved today. Inside, the tools and books used to educate feudal samurai are on display, allowing you to experience the atmosphere of education during the Edo period. It is one of the few remaining historical buildings in Tsuruoka City, and is a recommended spot for history buffs.
